Paramount Television was the main production company behind MacGyver. It was founded in 1967 when Gulf+Western Industries purchased Desilu Productions.
In 2006, Viacom, the company's parent since 1994, split into two companies, one retaining the Viacom name. The other was named CBS Corporation, and inherited ownership of Paramount Television, which was reorganized as CBS Paramount Television, itself renamed in 2009 to CBS Television Studios.
However, since CBS and Viacom are both controlled by National Amusements, Paramount retained its rights to distribute MacGyver on DVD on behalf of CBS.
